Coastal canines

If you’ve ever taken a loveable canine to the beach, you’re well-aware that they’re likely to go positively gaga over the opportunity to romp in the surf and sand. Just mentioning the B word can send a pooch, especially a water breed, into a jubilant frenzy. Dogs enjoy beaches for many of the same reasons humans do — fresh air, running, swimming, relaxation, checking out the hotties — and beaches can be excellent spots for doggy socialization. However, just like at a designated dog park, you should keep a watchful eye on your pooch and don’t push it if he or she seems to be freaked out by his surroundings.

In honor of our beach-loving four-legged friends, we’ve rounded up 10 pup-friendly beaches from across the U.S. The rules and restrictions at these beaches vary, so pay attention to posted regulations and shove a few extra poop bags into your beach tote, because you never know when a beach will supply baggies.
