Nags Head Beach, North Carolina

Although there are far less touristy outposts dotting North Carolina’s famed Outer Banks, Nags Head is among the most accommodating to canines and those who love them. About 11 miles of the town’s primo municipal beachfront is open year-round to four-legged beachcombers, with no time restrictions, so you don’t have to hoof it to the beach early in the morning or close to dinnertime. Your pooch, however, must be controlled on a leash under 10 feet at all times.

Our recommendation for the quintessential Nags Head doggy date? Stock up on all-natural treats at Salty Paws Biscuits and, after a long afternoon frolicking and playing fetch in the surf, settle down in the sand, your loyal BFF at your side, to take in one of the Outer Banks' postcard-perfect summer sunsets. Seriously, they’re worth howling over.
