A total of 2,721 dogs from 187 breeds and varieties competed in the show, which was held on Feb. 11-12 at Madison Square Garden. First held in 1877, Westminster is hailed by organizers as the second oldest sporting competition in America, after the Kentucky Derby.

Banana Joe is crowned as the first ever Affenpinscher to win Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
The Affenpinscher beat out six other group winners, including a Portuguese water dog, a bichon frisé, an American foxhound, an Old English sheepdog, a German wirehaired pointer and a smooth fox terrier.
