Talk about upcycling. Before you throw all those empties in the recycling bin after your next cookout, think about this. A Chinese farmer took 66 empty beer bottles, some hose pipe and a board and created a solar hot water heater. The sun heats up the water as it passes through the bottles.

Ma Yanjun says three people can take hot showers each day using his innovative hot water device, which is connected to the bathroom in his home. Others in his village have begun to copy his design.

Yanjun invented the solar hot water heater so his mother could shower comfortably. Now there’s a good son.
