For Hanson fans eager to steal a taste of the band's new craft beer, the wait is almost over. The trio has announced that their "Mmmhops Pale Ale," in development since late 2011, will be available during the fall portion of the band's upcoming "Anthem" tour. While the original idea was to wait a bit to premiere the new brew, the Oklahoma natives moved up the marketing push to sell related merchandise benefiting tornado survivors.
"The tragedy hits close to home, especially since this community was among the first places our band performed together, including schools which were lost in the storm. We are hopeful that the proceeds we can galvanize will play a lasting role in the recovery efforts," said Taylor Hanson in a statement.
Currently, the guys have a Mmmhops branded T-shirt and beer glass selling for $25 and $15 respectively online.
As for the beer, attendees at last week's Los Angeles premiere for "The Hangover III" (which features the group's 1997 hit "MMMBop") received an early taste test — but not necessarily the final recipe.
“The product that was sent to the premier was a sample batch and for promotional purposes only,” Mustang Brewing founder Tim Schoelen, who has partnered with Hanson on the venture, told BeerPulse. “The final recipe is yet to be determined. In fact, Hanson was in our brewery this week working with us on a pilot brew. They’re great guys and serious craft beer fans. We look forward to working with them.”
