As we head into the 4th of July weekend, I thought I’d share one of my favorite summertime classic cocktail with you instead of a weekend wine pick. I came across The Foghorn last summer, and it’s simplicity and ability to quench my thirst made it one of my favorite drinks from the first sip.

The Foghorn is as easy to make as a gin and tonic, but instead of using tonic water, it uses ginger ale. I love the combination of gin, ginger ale and lime.

  • 6 oz. rocks glass
  • ice
  • 1 1/2 to 2 oz gin
  • ginger ale
  • 1/2 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
  1. Fill the glass with ice
  2. Add gin, ginger ale and lime juice. Give it a slight stir.
  3. Garnish with lime wedge if you’re trying to impress. (Leave the lime wedge out if the price of limes makes them too precious to waste on garnish!)
I’ve seen a variation on this that uses ginger beer instead of ginger ale, and I’d like to give it a try sometime.

There are many quality, sustainable gins that you can use in this drink. Here are a few options.

Move over gin & tonic. The Foghorn is a refreshing change
This simple, classic cocktail using gin and ginger ale deserves to shine this summer.
