It’s been a long, crazy week for me. No chit-chat today. I’m going to get right into a few things I think you might like to read this weekend.


  • First of all, tomorrow night is Open That Bottle Night. I remind you of this every year on the last Saturday night in February. It’s a night to open the special bottle of wine you’ve been saving for a special occasion but never seem to find just the right one. If you don’t have a special bottle, perhaps it’s the night to splurge an extra $10 on a wine you’ve been meaning to try but is usually just out of your price range.
  • The James Beard Award Semifinalists were announced earlier this week. I’m very excited to see Collingswood, N.J.’s Zeppoli as a semifinalist in the Best New Restaurant Category. Last month, I had the pleasure of eating there with a group of area food bloggers, and I’m not surprised at all that it’s being recognized.
  • Eat Drink Better has a review of a product called Vegg – an egg substitute that you can cook up to look like an egg. You can fry it up like you would an egg or use at as a substitute in baking.
  • Chelsea Green, a publisher of books on all matters of sustainability, has a 25 percent off sale on its best selling titles that have to do with slow food. Books on wine, cheese, fermentation, vegetarian cuisine and more are discounted for a limited time.
