This is just my friendly yearly reminder that this Saturday,Stamp Out Hunger May 11, is the annual National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. It’s so easy to participate. You can dig in your own pantry for non-perishable food items like canned meats, fish, soup, bottled juice, vegetables, pasta, cereal and rice that do not require refrigeration. (No expired items or items in glass containers, please.)

Place it out with a sign on it saying it’s for Stamp Out Hunger. You may receive a bag or flyer from your letter carrier sometime this week to use. I know that’s happened in the past. If you don’t just staple or tape a sign on the bag that says “Stamp Out Hunger.”

The food will go to the local food banks, pantries or shelters to help feed the nearly 50 million Americans who rely on food banks each week.

There have been years where I’ve packed up the food on Friday and forgotten to put it out Saturday morning. I’ve solved that problem in the past few years by adding a reminder on my iPhone for Saturday morning. I just added a reminder for Saturday morning at 9 a.m. to put my bag out. If you want to participate, but are concerned you’ll forget, you might want to do something similar, right now
