Saturday, July 14 is National Can It Forward Day, a day sponsored by Ball to encourage people to preserve all the bounty from their gardens and area farmers markets. You don’t have to be an expert canner to participate. In fact, you can participate even if you’ve never canned anything. It’s the perfect day to get started.

There are lots of ways to participate in National Can It Forward Day. Here are a few:

  • Access Can-It-Forward Day Web TV - Canning pros will demonstrate how easy it is to preserve fresh foods from the garden with a live webcast of canning demonstrations and fresh preserving techniques. The webcast will allow viewers to have their canning questions answered in real time and broadcast live from the Minnetrista farmers market in Muncie, Ind.
  • Host a Home Canning Party – Ball has step-by-step instructions for hosting a party in your home or other venue, along with a party tips guide.
  • Get involved in the Twitter discussion - #canitforward is the hashtag for anyone who wants to talk about National Can It Forward Day with other participants.
  • Visit a local farmers market for a canning demonstration – Ball has a list of farmers markets that are offering demonstrations all summer long.

Ball will have the recipes from their demonstrations on their website.
