As I drive in the car, every once in a while the radio station my boys chose will play a commercial that has New Jersey’s latest PR campaign tagline in it, “We’re stronger than the storm.” And, here in my hone state, we are. Much of the Jersey Shore worked incredibly hard to be open by Memorial Day weekend after last fall’s Hurricane Sandy devastated coastal land, businesses and homes. But, there is still work to be done. Many people are still displaced from their homes and some businesses have yet to reopen.

Today, anyone across the country can help contribute to the work that’s still left to be done simply by dining out. Restaurants in many states will be participating in National Dine Out Day will be donating part of their profits from sales today to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.

Many of the restaurants participating are national chains like Panera or Benihana, as well as several of Emeril’s restaurants, but as I scrolled through the list, I saw several independent restaurants. A few of them in New Jersey I recognized as restaurants that heavily support local farmers. If you’re interested in dining out tonight to support Sandy relief, there’s a chance you may also be able to support restaurants that support local producers, too. It’s a win-win-win!

You can locate a National Dine Out Day participating restaurant by using the restaurant locator on the website.
