I can’t perfectly relate the sound my husband Brian made when he first tasted the Spicy Red Pepper Hummus that Tribe sent to us, but it was a good sound. It was similar to “mmmmm good” but the “mmmmm” was a little different — a good different. Good enough that dinner never got made last night because he ate almost the entire container of hummus and 3/4 of a bag of pita chips.

Tribe Origins is a new, all-natural line of hummus offered by Tribe, a company that was already making natural and organic hummus products. The Origins line contains four varieties: Original, Spicy Red Pepper, Zesty Garlic & Herb and Tomato and Veggie. We were sent a sample of each variety, and they are all delicious.

On Friday night, I pulled out the Original and the Zesty Garlic for our friends. Their 2-year-old daughter ended up making a meal out of carrots dipped in the Tribe Origins Original Hummus. My friend and I enjoyed the Zesty Garlic.

Yesterday, I opened the other two varieties and decided to take the Spicy Red Pepper into the living room while we were watching a movie. That’s when Brian got a hold of it, and the dinner I had planned flew out the window.

I usually buy my hummus from the hummus bar at the local grocery store, and I had never tried any of Tribe’s hummus varieties before. I really enjoyed everything we were sent. I also like that the packaging for the Tribe Origins is easily recycled. The containers are a #1 plastic, PETE, a type of plastic that is commonly accepted in community and curbside recycling programs.

Here are a few details from about Tribe Origins that they’d like you to know.

  • Free of any artificial preservatives, artificial flavors, hydrogenated oils, stabilizers, thickeners
  • Trans-fat free
  • Cholesterol-free
  • A good source of fiber, including both soluble and insoluble fiber (insoluble fiber can help prevent digestive disorders, while soluble fiber can help prevent heart disease).
Complete nutritional information on the different varieties is available on their website. The website also has recipes that can be made from hummus — it’s not just a dip for chips and vegetables.

Right now, there is a $1 coupon on the Tribe website to try Tribe Origins. I don’t know how long the coupon will be there, so click on over and print one out before it’s gone.
