I’ve been seeing an abundance of articles and blog posts about canning recently. Canning is one of those skills I intend to learn … someday. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

For those of you who do can, or like me hope to can someday, here’s some weekend reading on this skill that preserves seasonal foods so they can be enjoyed all year long.
  • Canning expert Marisa from Food in Jars got creative and made jam in a bread machine to can. Interesting.
  • If you’d like to make some jam to preserve for the winter, but you’re lacking the skills and materials for hot-water canning, $5 Dinners has a recipe for Strawberry Freezer Jam – a small batch that gets frozen.
  • August 13, 2011 is National Can it Forward Day. Ball, the makers of canning jars, is planning a day of home canning parties, online instructional canning videos and cooking demos, local events, and more.
  • This list of 10 favorite canning books from Frugal Canning might be of help if you’re looking to improve (or start to learn some) canning skills.
Enjoy your weekend!
