Convenience stores

You probably won’t find organic snacks at your local 7-Eleven store, but quick-stop shoppers with an eco-conscience could luck out at a nearby mom-and-pop store.

Papa’s Healthy Food & Fuel in East Otis, Mass., carries loads of organic snacks and groceries — even dog food. Locali Conscious Convenience in Los Angeles sells everything from biodynamic wines, beer and sake to organic tempeh meatball subs. Dallas-based Green Spot Market & Fuels not only offers organic convenience foods and drinks, but it packages them in compostable containers and cups, and even sells biodiesel at the pump.

Going a step further (actually a few steps further), SeQuential Biofuels operates an eco-futuristic convenience store in Eugene, Ore. In addition to organic BLTs on sourdough and chocolate cherry scones, this one-of-a-kind shop sports a green roof and sells biodiesel from a fueling island adorned with overhead solar panels.
