In a little while, my boys will be coming home from school. Last night, both their school systems called early dismissals for the day due to impending bad weather. A half a snow day is better than none in the eyes of my boys. They have high hopes for a full snow day tomorrow.
I don’t get as excited about snow days as my boys. I work from home. It disrupts my days. But, I try to remember how exciting, how sacred, snow days were when I was a kid and make them special. One way is to have food traditions and relaxed food rules that come with a snow day.
Thou shalt start the day with a hot breakfast. Put away the boxed cereal and cold milk and make oatmeal or some other comforting, energy-boosting breakfast before going out to shovel and play.
