It’s the unofficial start of summer. We’re having friends over tonight for drinks on the patio. Our neighborhood pool opens tomorrow. I'm heading to Atlantic City for a Paul Simon concert on Saturday evening. My 8-year-old will become a 9-year-old on Monday, and what’s being called “the never-ending birthday party” begins Sunday night at 6 p.m. and will last until 4 p.m. the next day. Go ahead, call me crazy, but I love this weekend.

I don’t know what this Memorial Day weekend will hold for you, but perhaps something here will help you along this weekend.

  • Consumer Reports has a few tips on saving gas as you travel this Memorial Day weekend. The tips aren’t anything you haven’t heard before, but with the price of gas these days (and the fact that using less gas is always a good thing), these are good to remember.
  • The Gorton Patch has tips for safe outdoor cooking for your Memorial Day cookout and all your summer outdoor eating.
  • The parenting website Babble offers 10 Healthy Potato Recipes for Memorial Day. Not all of them are potato salad recipes. One, Sweet Potato Glow Spirals, look like they’d make a delicious appetizer when cut into bite-sized pieces, and you can be sure that no one else will be bringing them to the BBQ.
  • If you’re looking for burger inspiration, these Brie-Mushroom Burgers from Ingredients, Inc. could be what you’re looking for.
Enjoy your holiday weekend!
