Back in 2006 we learned that Green Day was in fact green. It's impressive how far ahead of the green curve these guys were. They partnered with NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) to urge support for clean energy regulations, offering text message updates and a chance to win Green Day gear.

Now, with Obama in office and a climate bill in the works, Green Day added a new landing page to the site which urges fans to take action by sending their Senators a letter backing the bill.  And they have added a video competition. The best 5 videos on clean energy win a pair of Tres Cool drumsticks.

Perhaps proving that Myspace is not after all dead, Billy Joe Armstrong received a deluge of supportive comments on the Green Day blog, including several girls (and one guy) who offered sexual favors to the band.

Hopefully the video contest will yield more pertinent results! In any case, it's always great to have rock megastars supporting your cause. Check out the Green Day + NRDC website, which also offers designer dog tags for $10 that directly benefit the nonprofit work of the Natural Resources Defense Council.
