Actor and former television host Dick Van Dyke has been forced to cancel an upcoming public appearance due to what rep Bob Palmer is calling "fatigue and lack of sleep resulting from symptoms of a yet-to-be-diagnosed neurological disorder.”
The 87-year-old was set to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for Bettering Humanity through Comedy from New York's 92Y on April 26; an evening that was to see him recall "his magnificent and storied career." Speaking with USA Today, Palmer said Van Dyke has been advised against travel and is currently resting at his home in Malibu.
"Tests and scans have yet to reveal a specific diagnosis," added Palmer. "Various medications have not diminished the symptoms." He says that thanks to the star's "strong constitution and years on a daily fitness regimen, Dick is otherwise in good physical condition but the fatigue factor has become acute."
The symptoms are apparently so puzzling that Van Dyke reached out to his Twitter followers yesterday, seeking advice. "My head bangs every time I lay down," he wrote. "I've had every test come back that I'm perfectly healthy. Anybody got any ideas?" After all sorts of suggestions from readers, the actor added that the symptoms have actually been happening for seven years. "I've had every test you can think of (CAT Scan, MRI, Spinal tap etc) Any advice?," he added.
After one person suggested a chiropractor, Van Dyke responded "I don't believe in them."
Hmmm ... after seven years of nothing else working, perhaps its time to give it a shot? We wish Van Dyke all the best. If you think you might know what's ailing him, send him a tweet here.
