While we know absolutely nothing about what to expect from "Terminator: Genesis," the fifth film in the Terminator franchise, we do know that its principal players are hard at work at getting into shape for the robot apocalyptic thriller.
Emilia Clarke, the actress best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO series "Game of Thrones," was late last year selected to play Sarah Connor. Those familiar with "Terminator" and "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" will recall that Sarah is a very physical woman; something actress Linda Hamilton trained for months to portray. Turns out Emilia Clarke is traveling down a similar, albeit grueling, path.
In a new interview with U.K. InStyle, Clarke says producers have placed her on a strict nutritional regimen that excludes wheat, sugar, caffeine, or dairy.
"I've been spending all day every day, in weapons training," she says. I've been shooting guns, weightlifting, kickboxing and generally kicking a lot of a**. On top of that, I have not been allowed to eat anything that might taste good at all."
Despite the hardships of training, Clarke understands why she needs to transform her body to portray Connor.
"The beauty of Sarah as a character is that you're meeting her when she is coming to terms with being a warrior of sorts, while understanding herself as a mother as well," she says. "Not only a mother, but a mother to the saviour of the world. That's some journey."
"Terminator: Genesis," the script for which Arnold Schwarzenegger recently called "fantastic," is expected to bow sometime in 2015.
