Matthew McConaughey is taking the buff body he built for the stripper film "Magic Mike" and pushing it in the extreme opposite direction.
The 42-year-old recently attended a premiere for his new film "Killer Joe" sporting a noticeably thinner physique. The shape-shifting is all in preparation to start shooting his next role as that of an HIV patient in "The Dallas Buyer's Club." From IMDB:
Told to "go home and die" after developing full-blown AIDS in 1986, electrician Ron Woodroof delves into the world of underground pharmacies that supply HIV drugs not approved for use in the U.S. in an attempt to prolong his life, and, ultimately, the lives of thousands of other people.
"I'm losing some weight," he said. "I've got a role coming up in the middle of September. I've lost about 15 pounds, I've gotta lose about 15 more."
As for the nutrition plan he's undertaking to lose the weight, McConaughey says it's nearly all liquid.
"I am drinking a lot of tea. It takes a while for your body to understand that it has to feed off of itself and that you're not going to give it something else from the outside."
The actor's decision to embrace an extreme diet for a role comes on the heels of Anne Hathaway's own weight loss for her role in "Les Miserables." She said, “I lost the first 10 [pounds] in three weeks through a detox and then I lost the subsequent 15 in 14 days by doing food deprivation and exercise, which I don’t recommend."
Agreed — if you want to lose weight, just stick to a healthy combination of lots of fruits and vegetables and exercise. The results may not happen as fast as they do for these celebs, but your body (and mental health) will benefit in the long run.
