Lifesaving just got a little easier thanks to a digital update from the American Red Cross.

With the new Blood Donor App, users can quickly find nearby blood donation drives, schedule blood donation appointments, track their total donations, earn rewards and invite friends to join them on a lifesaving team. Would-be-lifesavers can also take a selfie to post on the Red Cross site and let everyone in their social media streams know what they're up to.  And while they're waiting for their appointment, blood donors can read about the real people whose lives have been saved by blood donations.

Of course, you don't need a smartphone or this schmancy new app in order to give blood.  You can also find a blood drive by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or by visiting

But if you do like to live life through your phone, check out the Blood Donation app.  It's free and available for download now in app stores.

Want to save a life? There's an app for that.
The American Red Cross is hoping its new Blood Donor app will help to collect the 15,000 units of blood that are needed everyday.
