Flagstaff, Ariz.

Located in world's largest contiguous ponderosa pine forest, Flagstaff is overlooked by the 12,000-foot San Francisco Peaks and is just a short distance from the Grand Canyon.

Hiking and biking are fantastic in nearby Sedona, Ariz., and the city is also a great place to stargaze. (It's also home to the historic Lowell Observatory.)
