If the Angry Birds build it, will you come?
With over 700 million downloads of the popular videogame (as well as millions cleared in merchandise), that answer is likely a resounding yes. Unfortunately, you'll have to travel to Finland to experience the world's first theme park attraction dedicated to the epic battle between pig vs. bird.
Officials for the Särkänniemi theme park in Tampere, Finland made the announcement recently; gaining the blessing of the developer Rovia, also based in the country.
"We wanted to create a unique themed area and associate it with a strong and well-known brand," Miikka Seppälä, chief executive of Särkänniemi said. "The Angry Birds characters were born in Finland but known worldwide by people of all ages. This is a perfect fit for our Adventure Park."
Unlike other attractions, Rovio's blessing comes with some healthy ulterior motives. "Our goal is to motivate the fans, both adults and children, to exercise and enjoy the outdoors," Rovio EVP Licensing and Merchandising Harri Koponen told TravelBite.
While details are scant, it appears that the Angry Birds attraction will include rides, games, and something called the "Magic Places" area where "the physical and virtual worlds would combine to create an interactive entertainment experience."
Whatever - Let's just say there had better be a giant slingshot that I can use to destroy a poorly constructed castle/fort/ice palace/etc and my pig enemies within. With the recently announced "Angry Birds Space" debuting next month, some kind of zero-gravity chamber would also be nice.
Look for the Angry Birds zone at Särkänniemi theme park to open April 28th.
