After a lifetime spent living on a farm in rural Tennessee and raising her four children, Ruby Holt finally had a chance to cross something big off her bucket list.
The 100-year-old, who will turn 101 next month, was recently whisked away on an all-expenses paid trip to the Gulf of Mexico, her first visit to the ocean.
"I’ve heard people talk about it and how wonderful it was and wanted to see it, but I never had the opportunity to do so," Holt told the AP. When staff at the assisted living center where she resides heard about her dream, they contacted the Wish of a Lifetime organization to see if the group might help make it come true. This week, with the help of a modified wheelchair for the sand, Holt took in the aquamarine waters of the Gulf.
Her first reaction? "It's cold."
