As the weather models continue to point to a major snow event striking the Washington, D.C. area this weekend, the race is on to stock up, shut down and settle in. It might also be a great time to work on your throwing arm.

Officials for the Washington, D.C. Snowball Fight Association (DCSFA) have announced a massive snowball fight for Dupont Circle on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. Just to add some flavor, they've also designated it a "Star Wars"-themed event - with participants encouraged to dress in their best Kylo Ren, Rey, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader or –– if you're really looking to become a target –– Jar-Jar Binks.

The event, titled "SNOW WARS: THE SNOWBALL STRIKES BACK!" is also accepting of other space-themed characters.

"We're big 'Star Wars' fans, and if you are too, bring your outfits and get into character as you engage with Storm Troopers [sic], Jedi, Vader and maybe even some Ewoks!," they write on the official Facebook invite page. "We also welcome Trekkies and other space-themed combatants (think "Guardians of Galaxy," "The Martian," and as an homage to Bowie, some Ziggy Stardusts as well!)."

Owing to the giddiness of a good old fashioned snowball fight, more than 700 people have already said they're going –– with over 1,100 more potentially considering the idea. Anyone have any AT-ATs to add?

In addition to hosting D.C.'s very own Battle of Hoth, the DCSFA is also encouraging people to sign up for, a crowdsourcing site that assists neighbors with shoveling driveways and sidewalks.
