Cruelty-free fashion made an appearance at the 2013 Emmy Awards red carpet, with "Bones" actress Emily Deschanel showing up in a Houghton custom vegan gown and a pair of custom vegan dyeable peep-toe Aldo pumps.

The 36-year-old, a committed animal rights advocate, has maintained a vegan lifestyle for many years now, working with organizations such as PETA and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to encourage plant-based diets and animal rescue initiatives.

In 2010, she was honored by HSUS with the prestigious Humane Advocate Awards. “I’m honored to receive this award, but we can all be effective animal advocates by simply adopting from a shelter or rescue group, refusing to wear fur, or going vegetarian for at least one day week,” she said. “When someone tells me they stopped eating chicken because of the 'Bones' factory farming episode we did last year, I consider that a small victory.”
