The Captain Planet Foundation will once again hold its annual benefit gala on December 6th in Atlanta, GA - continuing a tradition of fundraising and recognition of game-changers and leaders in environmental stewardship. This year's honorees include consumer advocate Erin Brockovich, husband-and-wife climate change force David Suzuki and Tara Cullis, TerraCycle founder and CEO Tom Szaky, and CEO of Greening Forward Charles Orgbon III.
In addition to a silent auction featuring everything from "Captain Planet" memorabilia to sports tickets, there will also be a live auction that promises to draw the most interest from attendees. Highlights include a ten-day expedition to the Galápagos Islands, a four-day getaway to Ted Turner's Lodge at Sierra Grande, and a thrilling opportunity to join polar explorer, Robert Swan, for the “Leadership on the Edge” International Antarctic Expedition 2014 (which also includes, for the truly adventurous, an overnight camping expedition in the Antarctic).
Started back in 1991 as a way to put the message of the cartoon into practice, the Captain Planet Foundation has since grown to funds projects in all 50 U.S. states and over 20 developing countries around the globe. This year's benefit will celebrate yet another milestone - the organization's direct funding of its one millionth child.
Individual tickets for the evening, held at the beautiful Georgia Aquarium in downtown Atlanta, cost $750.00. "Green Carpet" attendees include media mogul/Captain Planet creator Ted Turner, oceanographer Sylvia Earle, and many more. Musical entertainment will feature pop singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright and Atlanta-based alternative folk band von Grey.
