At the end of the 2011 hit "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," we witnessed the spread of a humanity-killing virus as it moved around the globe. Thanks to a new featurette filling in the plot points between that film and the upcoming "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," we now know it took only six years for civilization to collapse from the devastating pandemic.

For anyone that's ever played the fantastic strategy game Plague, Inc., the scenario that plays out in this featurette is eerily similar. I particularly like how it focuses on the keywords people would start searching for online - from "relief centers" to the inevitable "survival tactics." I'm not sure if "Dawn" director Matt Reeves will include any backstory on society's collapse (perhaps in the opening credits?), but this is a great primer nonetheless for anyone excited to see this sequel.

"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" arrives in theaters on July 11th.
