Fans looking forward to six new episodes of Discovery's hit survival series "Man vs. Wild" can expect a bit of Hollywood to kick things off.
Jake Gyllenhaal ("Source Code, "Prince of Persia") will be joining host Bear Grylls for the July 11 premiere, tackling the wilds of Iceland. "For me, it's all about discovery," said the 30-year-old actor.
This isn't the first time that the show has sent a celebrity into the elements. In 2009, comedian Will Ferrell joined Grylls in northern Sweden's ice-bound mountain ranges. The pair climbed trees, improvised snow shoes from saplings, drank their own urine, and ate reindeer eyeballs.
I'm not sure if Gyllenhaal will get the opportunity to experience that last bit, but he certainly impressed Grylls. "The wild is always very revealing — not only physically but mentally," the host said. "You've got to smile when it's driving horizontal hail and be able to face your fears and just get on and do it — and on both of those accounts, Jake came up strong."
Besides Iceland, the new season of "Man vs. Wild" will also take viewers to the north and south Islands of New Zealand and the Utah Badlands. You can catch Jake and Bear surviving in Iceland on July 11 at 9 p.m. EST on Discovery Channel.
