Days after she wore a raw meat bikini for the cover of Vogue Japan, Lady Gaga donned a similarly fleshy, but fake, evening gown for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.
The "Poker Face" singer went for the shock-factor with the all-meat dress and (of course) matching purse. To avoid, I assume, violating several public health codes, the outfit was made to look like meat -- though the effect was still just as head-turning. (UPDATE: Turns out, the meat really was real!) Leave it to Lady Gaga to one up Lady Gaga.
Ellen Degeneres, who taped the season opener of her show at the awards, asked Gaga about the outfit.
“Well, it is certainly no disrespect to anyone that is vegan or vegetarian. As you know, I am the most judgment-free human being on the earth,” said Gaga. “However, it has many interpretations -- but for me this evening, if we don’t stand up for what we believe in and if we don’t fight for our rights pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones. And, I am not a piece of meat.”
With that, Ellen (who is a vegan, along with wife Portia De Rossi) presented the star with a vegetable bikini and suggested wearing that next time she wants to make a statement.
The evening wasn't all shock and awe for Gaga. The 25-year-old also won eight awards (including the coveted Video of the Year prize for the instant classic clip "Bad Romance"), bringing her career total to an impressive 11.
