In this photo captured by Tulus Simatupang, a blue heron and a red-winged black bird swoop over Burnaby Lake in British Columbia, Canada. It's not hard to see why online voters and a panel of judges named this shot the winner of the Nature Conservancy's 8th annual photo contest.

As part of the grand prize, Simatupang will have his photo featured on the cover of the organization's 2015 calendar. The top five finalist photos, which will also be included in the calendar, can be viewed below.
