Looks like Oprah Winfrey won't be talking to Michael Vick anytime soon.
A representative for the Philadelphia Eagles QB called Oprah's production company last night and informed them that Vick would not be appearing as previously announced.
"Michael Vick was scheduled to be a guest on The Oprah Winfrey show for an episode airing next Thursday. Mr. Vick's representative called last night to cancel his appearance for personal reasons, " said Don Halcombe, a spokesman for the talk show host's Harpo Productions.
It was only on Monday that Oprah announced her exclusive with Vick, much to the chagrin of many who would rather not see the convicted dogfighter receive more attention off the playing field.
"I am absolutely shocked that Oprah would have this monster on her show" wrote one fan on her website. "The dogs he viciously abused and killed had no voice. It was bad enough that he is being feted in his city, but for Oprah to give him any time is unbelievable."
Rumor has it that Vick pulled out of the interview after the NFL (or Eagles) convinced him that he had everything to lose if the interview went sour. Did they catch wind that Oprah was going to open up a can of "BOOM!" on him? Would Vick stumble over questioning regarding his sincerity in working with the Humane Society?
Either way, in a released statement, he hasn't completely shut the door on one day sitting across from the talk show queen. "I admire and respect Oprah and hope to be able to participate in an interview in the future."
Knowing Oprah, this won't go over well — though I doubt few will be disappointed should he never get that second chance. But hey, there's always Piers Morgan, right?!
