That awesome "MythBusters/Breaking Bad" special is finally airing tonight (Aug. 12, Discovery, 10 p.m. EST) — and based on a preview provided to the "Today" show, it looks just as good as I'd hoped.

“We’ve been wanting to do a 'Breaking Bad' episode for awhile,” co-host Adam Savage told Entertainment Weekly last year. “Obviously there’s a lot of fertile material to play with, so things that happen on the show have been ending up on our list of stories to tackle for a couple years now. And when Vince [Gilligan] said in an interview that he’d love to see a 'MythBusters'/'Breaking Bad' crossover, we reached out to him directly and the response was overwhelming positive.”

While there are plenty of moments over the past five seasons of the hit AMC series to challenge, Savage and Hyneman have decided to focus on the first several episodes. These include testing to see whether hydrofluoric acid really could dissolve through a bathtub and the floor below and whether mercury fulminate could be used as an "impact explosive" to destroy an entire room.

Both Aaron Paul (who plays Jesse Pinkman on the show) and "Breaking Bad" creator Gilligan show up to participate in the fun. As Savage points out, it's a lot of dangerous chemistry.

“Hydrofluoric acid is terrifying stuff,” he says. “It’s not quite like alien blood, which is what a lot of people think when they think of powerful acids. It’s poisonous in a way that is completely unique and very disturbing.”
