Shaun White's long red hair has long been a trademark characteristic of the Olympic snowboarder and professional skateboarder. But this week, the 26-year-old decided the time had come to put those tresses to better use - and give himself a new look in the process.

“I have been thinking about this for a while, but it’s for a good cause, so I’m going to do it,” White said of the haircut in a personal video he posted to YouTube. “Somebody needs it more than I do. I haven't told anyone I'm doing this, that's the best part. I'm just gonna show up and mind freak people."

White, like many other celebrities before him, donated his hair to Locks of Love - a charity that provides wigs to disadvantaged children with hair loss due to medical conditions. If you briefly check out their Facebook page, you'll see pictures and messages from people all over the world cutting their hair to help others.

You might also remember back in 2010 when Zac Efron cut off his hair for the charity - and then convinced the film crew on the set of his movie "The Lucky One" to do the same. More than 30 people ended up donating their locks.

Check out Shaun's video below. What do you think of his new look?
