On Aug. 3, Derek Klingenberg of Peabody, Kansas, went out in the early morning hours carrying a trombone and his video camera. His goal? To call his 380 cattle in for a little treat. His song of choice? The hit "Royals" by Lorde.
"Yesterday morning was so beautiful," Klingenberg wrote on his Facebook page. "I left very early in the morning. There is something wonderful about playing a trombone in the middle of a prairie to 380 heifers. I must say I had no idea that the video would be such a hit."
After uploading it to YouTube, the Internet immediately embraced the "Cow Serenade," with Klingenberg reporting that media outlets like CNN, "Good Morning America," Fuji TV in Japan, the "Today" show were all contacting him. And then the queen of social media stepped up:
This guy plays his trombone ‘til the cows come home. http://t.co/x00Bw4Le56— Ellen DeGeneres (@TheEllenShow) August 5, 2014
Boom. Klingenberg's video quickly went from an impressive 20,000 views to its current 1.4 million.
