New York City's answer to SXSW is probably the closest thing you'll find to the famous Austin fest outside of Texas. The CMJ Music Marathon, based at the famous New York University, offers lectures and panels discussing all aspects of the modern music industry. There is also a trade show featuring hundreds of music tech companies. The real highlights, though, are the shows that take place at more than 80 bars and music venues in the Big Apple. In total, more than 1,300 acts take to the stage in Manhattan and Brooklyn over the five-day festival. There are plenty of options, no matter what genre you prefer.
