Els Enfarinats, which occurs in the small Spanish town of Ibi on Dec. 28, takes the cake when it comes to getting messy. This is probably as close to the kind of childhood fantasy food fight as you are likely to get. Each year, the citizens of Ibi stage a mock battle using flour bombs and eggs.
At times, the flour is so thick in the air that it seems like there is a blizzard, even though snow is almost unheard of in this corner of eastern Spain. Dec. 28 is officially known as the Day of the Innocents, which is a kind of Spanish version of April Fools' Day.
