The Flatiron Building

The Flatiron Building is famed for its sharply triangular shape. When it was completed in 1902, it was one of the tallest skyscrapers in the city. It sits at the inside apex of the intersection of 5th Avenue and Broadway and was built using a steel skeleton, a technique that was not widely used at the time and that allowed it to reach 22 stories. At its most narrow end (the end facing us in the photo), the building is a scant six feet wide.
