You can find the total amount of money she needs by multiplying the price of plastic whistles by 5 and multiplying the price of candy necklaces by 2 and adding the two numbers together.

(0.21 x 2) + (0.94 x 5) = total cost of items

What is 4/12 in lowest terms?

According to IXL, to put a fraction in lowest terms, find the largest number that divides both the numerator and the denominator. Divide both the numerator and the denominator by that number. The largest number that divides both 4 and 12 is 4. Divide the numerator and denominator by 4.

4 ÷ 4 = 1

12 ÷ 4 = 3

Solve for x: 11x – x = 20

Pull out the x terms

11x - x = x(11 - 1)

(There's an unwritten 1 in front of variables without another number.)

This leaves you with 10x=20

Divide by 10 to solve for x:

10x/10 = 20/10

x = 2

Evan bought 4 packages of canned salmon and 2 packages of canned tuna. Each package of salmon contained 8 cans, and each package of tuna contained 3 cans. How many more cans of salmon than tuna did Evan buy?

First, find the number of cans of salmon in the packages with 4 x 8 = 32.

Next, find the numbers of cans of tuna with 2 x 3 = 6.

Finally, find the difference between totals: 32 - 6 = 26.

So Evan bought 26 more cans of salmon than he did tuna.

Kathy is leaning a ladder against the side of her house to repair the roof. The top of the ladder reaches the roof, which is 16 feet high. The base of the ladder is 12 feet away from the house, where her friend Bill is holding it steady. How long is the ladder?

In a right triangle, a2 + b2 = c2, where a and b are the lengths of the legs and c is the length of the hypotenuse. This is called the Pythagorean Theorem.

Use the Pythagorean Theorem, with a = 16 and b = 12. 162 + 122 = c2.

Now square the numbers you have to get 256 + 144 = c2.

Add the numbers you have to get 400 = c2.

Take the square root of both sides to determine that 20 = c.

Jacob recorded the eye colors of the people in his class. 3 people had hazel eyes, 3 people had green eyes, 8 people had blue eyes and 1 person had brown eyes. With this data, how many people, in another class with 20 students, should have hazel eyes?

The experimental probability is the number of times an event occurs out of the total number of trials. First write the experimental probability as a fraction in simplest form.

P(hazel) = hazel/total

P(hazel) = 3/3+3+8+1

P(hazel) = 3/15

Now reduce the fraction to 1/5.

We can predict the outcome of the second set of trials by assuming that the ratio will be the same as in the first set of trials. Write a proportion by setting the two ratios equal to each other, then solve.

1/5 = n/20

Multiple both sides by 5 and 20: 1/5 (5 x 20) = n/20 (5 x 20)

Simplify this equation to 1 x 20 = 5n and then simplify again to 20 = 5n.

Divide both sides by 5 to receive the solution: 4 = n. You should expect 4 out of 20 people to be hazel-eyed

A hospital ordered 5 boxes of alcohol swabs. There were 77 alcohol swabs in each box. How many alcohol swabs did the hospital order in all?

Multiply: 5 x 77 = 385. The hospital ordered 385 alcohol swabs in all.

One car left Valdosta averaging 55 mph and another car left Atlanta averaging 70 mph. They traveled toward each other on Interstate 75. Atlanta is north of Valdosta by 300 miles. When did they meet if they both left at noon?

Set the distance of the car leaving Atlanta as x. Then set the distance of the car leaving Valdosta as 300 - x.

Now cross-multiply the distances over their speed: x/70 x 300 - x/55. This will give you 55x = 21,000 - 70x.

Combine your x terms so they're on the same side of the equation to get 125x = 21,000. Now divide 21,000 by 125 to solve for x.

x = 168, and this is the distanced traveled by the car leaving Atlanta to head toward Valdosta. Now that we know x, we can determine how long it took both cars to arrive at the same spot.

Divide 168 by 70 or divide 132 by 55 (since x = 168, 300 - 168 = 132). Both give the result of 2.4 hours, which is 2 hours and 24 minutes.

Since both cars left their destinations at noon, they will meet at the same spot at 2:24 p.m.

Benny brought chocolate and vanilla cupcakes to school for his birthday. 35 students decided to take a cupcake, and 60 percent of them picked vanilla. How many people picked a vanilla cupcake?

One way to find the answer is to write and solve an equation:

part = percentage of whole

n = 60% × 35

n = 0.6 × 35

n = 21

Aaron's class took a field trip to a science museum. They left school at 9:30 a.m. It took them 1 hour and 15 minutes to drive to the museum. They stayed at the museum for 3 hours and 30 minutes. What time was it when Aaron's class left the museum?

Add the times to find the total elapsed time.

1 hour 15 minutes + 3 hours 30 minutes = 4 hours 45 minutes

Now determine what 4 hours and 45 minutes after 9:30 a.m. by first adding 4 hours to 9:30 a.m. This is is 1:30 p.m.

Now add 45 minutes to 1:30 p.m. This is 2:15 p.m., which is when Aaron's class left the museum.
