The fastest vehicles in the world
Spectators watch through binoculars and zoom-camera lenses as a race car thunders down a two-mile course during Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats. Every year, hundreds of racing enthusiasts descend on the Salt Flats to observe the ultra high-speed wheeled vehicle races and sometimes even witness the setting of new land speed records. The World Land Speed Record was set on Oct. 15, 1997, by former Royal Air Force pilot Andy Green with his jet-propelled Thrust SSC. (Photo: ZUMA Press)
