In the United Kingdom, the holiday season begins with the release of the annual John Lewis department store Christmas advertisement, and this year's ad is leaving viewers misty-eyed.

Titled "Man on the Moon," the two-minute short film features a young girl named Lily who looks through a telescope one night only to discover that an elderly man lives alone on the moon.

Determined to prove to the old man that he's not truly alone, she tries various methods of getting a message to him, and she finally succeeds with a little Christmas magic.

While the video is a commercial at its core, John Lewis partnered with charity Age UK to encourage people to reach out to the elderly who can often go a month without speaking to anyone.
