A group of runners in a San Jose, Calif., charity race took a spontaneous detour to shake hands with Joe Bell, a 95-year-old World War II veteran, and thank him for his service.

Bell stood outside in his home, dressed in his military uniform, cheering on the runners.

The annual race benefits the Pat Tillman Foundation, which provides scholarships to military veterans.
