Aït Benhaddou, Morocco

Sitting in the lands where the Sahara Desert meets Morocco's Atlas Mountains, Aït Benhaddou has had a long history as a filming location. Parts of "Gladiator" and "The Mummy" were shot here.

In "Game of Thrones," it is a stand-in for the slavers' city of Yunkai. The red walls of Aït Benhaddou's historic Medina allow it to fit into any historic period. Though it is mainly used for filming, several families still call the ancient buildings of Medina home.
