Like many of the other converted churches on our list, Kruisherenhotel has a gothic-style design that's at once impressive and mildly intimidating. The 60 guest rooms and suites still retain the historic atmosphere, but the accommodations are equipped with designer beds and linens, climate controls and flat-screen TVs. Guests can see the original exposed stone wall, vaulted ceilings and stained glass windows in their rooms and in the hotel's common areas.

The in-house eatery (pictured), Kruisherenrestaurant, is on a mezzanine in the middle of the main church hall. Its ultra-mod lighting fixtures highlight the melding of old and new that seems to have been the overall theme of the renovation and redesign.
