Fortaleza has about 2.5 million inhabitants. Like its northeastern coastal neighbors, the temperatures are usually quite pleasant year-round, and visitors can expect mild daytime highs in the 70s during the Cup. Fortaleza is a walking city, and the restored historical neighborhoods and beachfront boulevard are ideal places for an extended stroll. Water and board sports are widespread, though the beach restaurants and bars mean that you don't have to hit the water or catch a suntan to enjoy yourself. The Estádio Castelao, a newly renovated space first built in the 1970s, will host six matches during the Cup.
