Shell Service Station

This Shell filling station was constructed in Winston-Salem, N.C., in 1930 when the Shell Company decided to begin marketing in North Carolina. The company built eight of these scallop-shaped stations in the state, but the one at the corner of Sprague and Peachtree streets is the only station that remains. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, and Preservation North Carolina spent $50,000 to bring the landmark back to its original condition.
