Hanging Temple

Built into a cliff near Mount Heng in Shanxi Province, China, the Hanging Monastery is the only temple that embodies the three traditional religions in China: Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism. Strategically placed to be protected from the weather, legend says this temple was built by a single monk over 1,500 years ago. In accordance with Tao practices, the location so far from the ground below also keeps the monastery in relative silence.
