Sumela Monastery

At an altitude of nearly 4,000 feet, this Greek Orthodox monastery in the Trabzon Province of Turkey has a breathtaking view of Altindere National Park. Founded in 386, the monastery is dedicated to the Virgin Mary — according to local legends, it was built by two priests after they found an icon of Mary in one of the mountain's caves.
