Temple of the Golden Pavilion

Kinkaku-ji (Temple of the Golden Pavilion), also known as Rokuon-ji (Deer Garden Temple), is a Zen Buddhist temple surrounded by a classic Japanese strolling garden. The temple itself was envisioned as an extension of the outside world, with different architectural styles for each of its three floors. The temple that sits today is a rebuilt version of the original, which was burned down by a mentally unstable monk in 1950.
