Leavenworth, Wash.

Looking down the main streets of Leavenworth and its nearby mountains, you would certainly be forgiven for thinking that you were in the foothills of the German Alps, but the town actually sits on the eastern edge of the Pacific Northwest's Cascade Range. Leavenworth goes well beyond merely mimicking Bavarian architecture, with a traditional holiday market featuring handmade local crafts, and a midwinter Bavarian Ice Festival. German-style eateries are on the menu as well, and virtually every restaurant and bar has a huge range of German and American microbrews on tap.
