Prentice Women's Hospital

This unique architectural icon, designed by famed Chicago architect Bertrand Goldberg, opened in 1974 to international acclaim. Bertrand believed imaginative and bold hospital planning could improve patient experience, staff performance and lead to a higher standard of care. The Prentice Women's Hospital relocated in 2007, and the building's only current tenant will leave in 2011. Northwestern University owns the building and plans to demolish it before the end of 2011. The Commission on Chicago Landmarks may fight to keep the building intact, but there is no formal protection from demolition in place.
